Harry Cooper

Group Analyst and Individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapist

UKCP

I am a Group Analyst; I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy to individuals and conduct psychotherapy groups. I qualified at the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA), London and I have full clinical membership of UKCP.

Alongside my private practice, I work within the NHS. Before training as a psychotherapist, I spent nearly twenty years working therapeutically with adolescents in care and educational settings. Working with young people who had often experienced significant disruption, loss, and adversity taught me a great deal about resilience, relationships, and the different ways emotional difficulties can be expressed.

Over the years I have worked with people experiencing anxiety, depression, difficulties in relationships, addiction, questions of identity, emotional regulation difficulties, and periods of transition or crisis. While these descriptions can be useful, I believe that each person's difficulties have their own particular meaning and history. My interest is not only in what is happening now, but in understanding how it came to be. Whatever brings you, we can begin there.

Therapy offers a confidential space where we can think together about your experiences, difficulties, and relationships, and explore how they may connect to one another. My way of working is thoughtful, collaborative, and curious. I do not see therapy as a process of giving advice or offering quick solutions. Instead, I aim to create the conditions in which we can think together about your experience, including aspects that may feel confusing, uncomfortable, or difficult to put into words.

I have found that meaningful change often emerges not from trying harder to be different, but from developing a fuller understanding of ourselves, our relationships, and the patterns that shape our lives.

I am passionate about access to psychotherapy and can offer some low fee places; we can discuss this when we meet.

I also offer reflective practice to teams/organisations. I specialise in offering reflective practice to teams who work with clients with complex emotional needs; where teams are managing challenging situations, and the resulting impact on professionals and team functioning. I would be happy to discuss requests from a wide range of organisations.
